Dennis obtained his 1stClass Marine Engineering
Certificate of Competency for Motor ships in 1991 and has worked
as a Marine surveyor and ISM Lead auditor with the Australian
Maritime Safety Authority Cairns, Australia for the past 3.5 years.
Before joining AMSA, Dennis worked for the American Bureau
of Shipping and Bureau Veritas classification societies. Whilst
with them, Dennis worked in the roles of classification surveyor
for New Construction and Ships in Service. He was an ISM Lead
auditor with AMSA, ABS and BV, Isotainer inspector, and has
made presentations on Risk Assessment and the role of classification
on behalf of Bureau Veritas in Australia and New Zealand. Whilst
at the American Bureau of Shipping Dennis completed the training
for ISPS auditors.
Prior to becoming a classification surveyor, Dennis was employed
as a lecturer/ facilitator at South Metropolitan College of
TAFE (now Challenger TAFE) where he delivered training in various
sectors of marine Industry and was also employed on the Collins
Class Submarine program as a training facilitator, then as the
project manager.
Dennis’ sea going experience includes serving as an Engineer
Officer on Tankers, General Cargo, Ro-Ro, Tugs and a Sail training
vessel.
