Detention, as a result of a PSC inspection,
can be costly in terms of loss of charters, demurrage, cost
of delays, repairs and increased insurance premiums. Detentions
can be attributed to differences in the crews’ perception
of priorities, based on different cultural understandings,
or due to the lack of communication, or understanding, between
ships and their shore-based support management.
Naturally, Shearforce Maritime Services cannot guarantee what a particular
PSC inspector will be targeting, or their personal interpretations
of the findings. Nor can we guarantee that your ships will
not be subject to a targeting campaign, or from inspection
by an over zealous Port State Control Officer. What we can
provide is a detailed Pre-PSC Inspection based on PSC inspection
procedures in Australia, the USA and Europe.
Your crew will experience a “strict”
PSC-type inspection, preparing them effectively for the
real thing.
The ship’s master and/or operator
will be left with:
- advice on how best to prepare for a PSC inspection;
- how the ship’s company should conduct themselves during
a PSC inspection;
- an understanding of PSC action codes and consequences;
- a list of defects, which if dealt with appropriately, should
minimise the risk of detention or serious deficiencies;
- suggestions as to how to deal with/remedy the defects found.
